About AbilityOne®

We are an Authorized AbilityOne® Distributor as well as an AbilityOne®/SKILCRAFT® product manufacturer.

Established in 1938 by the Wagner-O'Day Act and expanded in 1971 by the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act, AbilityOne® is a Federal program that creates employment opportunities for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. Federal acquisition regulations mandate that federal agencies procure products produced by people who are blind or have significant disabilities. West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind dba Lighthouse Office Supply is one of the AbilityOne nonprofit agencies that employs blind Americans and produces these products. Currently, the AbilityOne® program supports the employment of over 45,000 people who are blind or disabled.

Authorized by the U.S. AbilityOne Commission, National Industries for the Blind (NIB) is the central organization that assists agencies who employ blind people, including West Texas Lighthouse, with participation in the AbilityOne® Program. In 1952, NIB launched SKILCRAFT®, the brand name for quality products made by people who are blind. SKILCRAFT® has become a popular brand among Federal Government customers, and today offers over 3,000 products.
